Our Mission

FEED • EDUCATE • EMPOWER We seek to transform the lives of vulnerable populations in Malawi living in extreme poverty and provide women and children with the opportunity to reach their full potential in an actively sustainable way. Our vision is to create educated, empowered and productive communities in Malawi and to provide an opportunity for Africans to help Africans. Maloto values the insights and knowledge of local communities. We work directly with local partners to ensure development is relevant to people’s lives and therefore sustainable.

Who We Are

In 2003, Anna Msowoya-Keys returned home to Mzuzu, Malawi to attend her sister’s funeral. Like so many, she died of HIV/AIDS. The number of children that attended the funeral shocked her because when Anna was growing up in Malawi, children were not allowed to attend funerals. When she asked why there were so many children, she was told they were there in hopes of receiving food. Anna realized immediately the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS on the community. The disease had wiped out a generation of caregivers, teachers, and community leaders; and left thousands of children orphaned. She was heartbroken and decided something had to be done. So, she founded Maloto.
