FOUNDATION HISTORY The first mission of the Foundation traces its roots to the 1970's and the Association’s collection of donations earmarked for college scholarships, which grew into a fund with ever increasing number of awards. With 9-11 and the War on Terror in full swing, the 173d Airborne Brigade jumped into Iraq and the Foundation mission adapted to those needs. The Foundation was formed in 2006 as an independent 501(C)(3) organization to honor and support past, present, future generations of Sky Soldiers and their families with a special commitment to the Gold Star families whose Sky Soldier was Killed In Action while serving with the 173d Airborne Brigade. The Sky Soldiers Foundation and the 173d Airborne Brigade Association operate as full partners in delivering support to the members of the Sky Soldier Community.
