A Second Chance Resource Center Network United, Inc. (ASCRC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provide a comprehensive range of services designed to help individuals who have made mistakes in the past and are willing to move forward and acquire the knowledge, skills, and mindset they need to ease their transition back into their family, community, workforce and society while reducing the rate of recidivism and stigmatization.
ASCRC uses a holistic approach to provide intensive case management for ex-offenders (Justice Involved Individuals) that are transitioning back into their family and community. Reentry services are provided throughout the Tri-County Community (Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester County) area and the Lowcountry Communities. The Reentry services that are provided include but are not limited to workforce development, trainings/certifications, apprenticeships/on the job training programs, technology services, transportation assistance, educational and career assessment/assistance/referrals, health and wellness referrals, mental health referrals, food assistance referrals, alcohol and drug sessions, anger management sessions, parenting education sessions, tutoring and mentoring sessions, transitional housing, and other community partnership referrals.
Through our intensive case management program, ASCRC offers various services and resources to our clients. The following are some of the services and resources that are offer to our clients to include but not limited to the following:
The Re-Link Program which is a recidivism program. Under this program, we offer various workshops and seminars, as well as connecting individuals with referrals to various community partners. Within the Re-Link Technology Center, participants can connect with various educational, employment, and mentoring opportunities to strengthen skills, explore educational and employment opportunities, becoming more productive in their own communities and setting examples (good examples) for the family. Re-Link, is designed to help participants see their value, achieve goals in education, skill-building services, including apprenticeships and occupational training in-demand industries that lead to industry-recognized credential thus reducing the rate of recidivism.
The Pathway to home is a pre-release program. The program works with individuals 20 days to 180 days of being released from incarceration the purpose of the program is to begin reentry services prior to being release and the goal is to establish a protocol that provides a warm hand off of justice involved individuals from incarceration to reintegration back into their family, community, workforce and society.
ASCRC has partnered with the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to create an after school program. We provide structured time, activities, and supervision between the end of the school day and when parents return from work. This nationally recognized program is specifically designed to reduce the likelihood that participants could be incarcerated and is geared toward those youth.
The Give a Chance Program supports and focuses on services that provide youth and young adults with education enrichment, health and wellness, career development, financial education, technology education, mentoring, sports development, personal and family development education. Empowering individuals and families to make positive choices that will reduce and or remove social barriers and promote economic independence and self-sufficiency. Using a holistic approach, we provide case management services to our youth, young adults, and their families. Fostering and developing partnerships over the years have afforded A Second Chance Resource Center the opportunity to have workforce partnerships throughout the communities that assist our youth.
The HOPE Program ( Healing, Opportunity, Prevention, Education) approaches youth development in a holistic way. HOPE was developed to support the increasing number of youth on probation, parole and those aging out of the foster care system by identifying the barriers our youth face. We look to provide the tools and resources to support a holistic rehabilitation and reintegration.
The Parenting Education classes are age-specific, and provide various teaching strategies that will help parents and caregivers build positive relationships with children while learning various effective discipline strategies.
Job Readiness provides pre-employment attitudinal and soft-skill training, job search, job coaching, job placement assistance and post-placement services to lead people to permanent employment and self-sufficiency.
Community engagement supports and focus on programs that provide education enrichment, health and wellness, financial education, personal and family development education. Empowering individuals and families to make positive choices that will reduce and or remove social barriers and promote economic independence and self-sufficiency.
The Mentoring programs connect the next generation to committed and caring adults for structured, ongoing relationships that support high school and college success as well as soft and hard skill development.
Arts, Culture, and Historic Preservation program are an integral part of life and, when embedded in cross-sector revitalization activity, can contribute to positive and enduring economic, social, and cultural change in communities. A Second Chance Resource Center seek to engage partners and residents in low-income neighborhoods to integrate arts and culture in their revitalization work.
Voices of A Second Chance Re-Entry Group is open to all returning citizens who have been released from a local, state, or federal facility. Voices provide a safe space for participants where they can share and learn in a confidential environment. A Second Chance Resource Center provide participants with tools necessary to reintegrate successfully in the community. Groups are held every Wednesday at the outreach center.
The Phoenix Transitional Housing program provide transitional housing to offenders (Justice Involved Youth/Young Adults) under active supervision who are homeless or nearly homeless with housing services who need a safe environment in which to live temporary while they pursue the long-term goal of securing permanent housing.
A Second Chance Resource Center recognizes and understands that strong families, build strong sustainable communities and law-abiding citizens, we will continue to establish partnerships throughout our community to strengthen individuals and families, creating economic opportunities, and rebuilding sustainable and “healthy communities.”
