Andean Health & Development (AHD) is fundamentally changing rural health care in Ecuador by providing sustainable, quality medical care today and by training the rural health care leaders of tomorrow.
Andean Health & Development (AHD) is changing the health and well-being of the poor in rural Ecuador by providing quality medical care based on an innovative and proven model of local self-sustainability that can be replicated throughout Latin America. What distinguishes the organization from others is that AHD is the only rural health provider in Latin America that delivers quality care based on a proven model of self-sufficiency and capacity building. AHD offers the only residency program that trains rural family physicians — where local faculty train Ecuadorian physicians to work in their own communities.
Where We Work
What We Do
Andean Health has provided high quality medical services to 125,000 at two hospitals in rural Ecuador and trains local doctors in family medicine. The first hospital is financially self-sustaining and the second hospital will be self-sustaining in two years. Donations go toward bringing the second hospital to breakeven and toward training 60 Ecuadorian Family Physicians a year. Only a quarter of Ecuadorian doctors have residency training currently. Andean Health is changing this and raising the standards for medical care.
