ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS (AYS), a comprehensive choral education program, promotes self-confidence, musical excellence, and the development of life skills through music fluency, artistic development, excellence in choral performance, and free community education.
Atlanta’s premier choir for youth, AYS started in 1975 with 55 children ages 10-14; today, it is a 7-Choir program with 160 Singers ages 7-18 rehearsing in 5 locations. The Choir has traveled extensively, singing in all cultural capitals of N. America and Europe, incl Carnegie Hall in 2013/2016, and winning invitations to the most prestigious international choral festivals. Treble Choir and Youth Chorale won silver and gold medals and two gold diplomas at the 2014 World Choir Games in Latvia; in 2018, YC participated in IHLOMBE! Choral Festival in South Africa for the Nelson Mandela 100th birthday celebration! At the forefront of the choral art form in Atlanta and the US, AYS sparks musical creativity in youth all over metro Atlanta, nurtures professional Singers, and thrills audiences worldwide through innovative programming and multidisciplinary offerings and collaborations. Dedicated to reaching underserved children, increasing music literacy, commissioning new American choral works, supporting local and regional musicians, and presenting cutting-edge, innovative concert formats, AYS provides a diverse, challenging learning environment that inspires intelligent thought, artistic creativity, and personal growth. AYS Singers represent communities in 57 zip codes, 11 counties, 90 school environments; AYS is the most inclusive, diverse community choral program in the metro area. AYS serves schools, educators, families, audiences in all of these communities, incl Fulton Co. Audiences include people of all ages, family structures, backgrounds, economic levels. 20,000 people each yr and 2,700 Alumni and their families have benefited directly from AYS programs; 90,000 people heard AYS Choirs last year through outreach, self-produced, booked
