Mission Statement

Our mission is to work in partnership with local communities to eliminate the causes and conditions of poverty and to promote individual independence and self-sufficiency.

About Us

Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area was established as a nonprofit corporation in December 1964, with the passage of the Economic Opportunity Act. This act called for “the elimination of the paradox of poverty in the land of plenty.” It mandated Community Action Agencies to focus all available local, state, private and federal resources on empowering low-income individuals and families to attain the skills, knowledge and opportunities required to become self-sufficient.

Since 1964, we have provided opportunities for low-income individuals and families to lead more productive lives through advocacy efforts, education, job training, employment and the provision of safe and affordable housing.

Today, Community Action Partnership has an operating budget of approximately $13 million, more than 100 employees and a 21-member Board of Trustees. This agency is honored to be affiliated with the National Community Action Partnership, an organization which represents the interests of more than 1,000 Community Action Agencies across the United States dedicated to eliminating poverty and promoting self-sufficiency among low-income persons and their families.

After 51 years of still changing lives, we are most appreciative to those that we serve, the partners who help us in this effort and our dedicated staff members. We thank our Board of Trustees who provides oversight of our resources, encouragement and direction to our staff. We thank all of you for your on-going support.
