Fruited Plains

We first went to Kenya in 2004. We met the people of Mt. Elgon, Kenya and knew we were called to impact their lives. There are approximately 300,000 people who live on Mt. Elgon. Although the land is fertile, the people lack the resources to grow high quality crops and transport them to markets. As a result, brokers offer farmers half of what their crops are worth. The people on the mountain are very poor and most are unable to provide school fees for their children. Fruited Plains has a history of working with the people of Mt. Elton. During our time, we have assisted close to 3,000 families overcome starvation (children were dying) and now we are training them in growing high value crops and are assisting them in exporting these crops so they are able to provide for their families and develop their communities. We believe if you give a man a hand out, you refine his skills for begging but if you give a man a hand up, you refine his self-worth.
