Our Mission

1. To empower Survivors with life skills for a path forward and away from the life of human trafficking 2. To equip the hospitality industry with tools to become heroes in the fight against human trafficking 3. To mobilize entire communities to join the fight to end human trafficking We continue to develop and refine our programs to bring education, training, and action opportunities to combat human trafficking up and down the I-5 corridor in Southern California, providing access and advantage to survivors through workshops that increase their employability and their belief in themselves.

Who We Are

In 2013, Brenda Wells learned something that dramatically and permanently changed her life. After attending an Orange County anti-trafficking event, she discovered the halting reality that Orange County boasts among the highest rates of human trafficking in the nation. A large proportion of this trafficking occurs in the hotels that we pass on the I-5 freeway every day on our way to work. Hence, after determining what specific skills she could contribute to the fight against trafficking, Wells created the i-5 Freedom Network. The organization was built to address a need that was lacking at the time and which happened to fit nicely with Wells’ expertise; as a Corporate Trainer with experience in the hospitality industry, Wells set out to offer survivor-informed hotel training programs to detect and report the signs of trafficking. The i-5 Freedom Network mission continued to grow, and since its inception in 2015 it has gone on to consult on legislation, provide direct survivor support, and more.
