Our Mission

Mission Statement: Interfaith Food Center ‘s mission is to provide nutritious food to our neighbors in need in an environment that nurtures dignity and respect. Value Statement: IFC is a community of compassionate people who believe that all people deserve access to nutritious food. Vision Statement: We envision a community in which everyone has access to sufficient nutritious food.

Who We Are

IFC has been feeding the hungry since 1983 and has grown in demand and need for service in the years since. IFC is not a religious organization. With an active Board of Directors and a dedicated cadre of over 150 volunteers, the Center has six full time employees, and two part-time employees. It is the only agency in this area to consistently reach out and meet the needs of thousands of area residents who are hungry. Interfaith Food Center distributes over 3.3 million pounds of food annually, seeing more than 260 families each day we are open -- this totals over 8,000 meals each week. Our current service area includes La Mirada, Santa Fe Springs and the City and unincorporated areas of Whittier in Los Angeles County. Our Supplemental Grocery Program distributes food five times weekly; each client comes once or twice each week, depending on family size. Clients' weekly food allotment includes canned goods, dairy and meat products, bread and fresh produce. We also have a Homeless Food Bag Program providing daily food four times each week to over 200 homeless people. Our Mobile Nutrition Pantry serves over 600 seniors living at Senior Housing Facilities with approximately 30 pounds of food monthly. IFC provides a critical alternative to fast food and assures our clients of a steady supply of healthy nutrition, with all the long term and positive impacts that have been demonstrated when children and adults have access to healthy, nutritious and balanced meals. IFC has also added Nutrition Classes and food demonstrations, designed to educate our clients to prepare the food they are given with their health in mind. Our Supplemental Grocery clients are required to register with us yearly, and must income qualify and fall within our service area. Our target population includes low- or no-income families, children, seniors, single parents, unemployed, the homeless and people with disabilities.
