Our Mission

Since 1979, El Taller has been an open space for expression and dialogue inspired by the belief that creativity dispels fear and mistrust among communities. Hundreds of people gather at El Taller each month to participate in classes, exchange ideas, and find creative inspiration and a refuge in the middle of New York City. A language school, performance space, art gallery, and community institution, El Taller celebrates both the rich diversity and shared cultural heritage of the Americas. All elements of El Taller interconnect. Our educational programs are infused with the vitality of the arts, while exhibitions in our Grady Alexis Gallery, performances, and artistic projects speak to the beauty of language in the creative process.

Who We Are

El Taller is a haven for culture and art rooted both in Latin America and in New York. From concerts, readings, film screenings, our Grady Alexis Gallery, to our unique Spanish classes, all elements interconnect. Educational programs are infused with art and culture; performances, artistic projects, and gallery exhibitions recognize the beauty of language in the creative process. A language school, performance space, gallery, and community institution, El Taller is an educational arts space that celebrates both the rich diversity and the essential interconnectedness of the cultures of the Americas.
