Our Mission

Our mission is to provide intervention to low-income children and families; supporting hard-working parents by providing special skills to enable their child’s success. Every child has the potential to change poverty in their community; we help them get started.

Who We Are

Necessities for Children (NFC) is a nonprofit organization that changes lives by providing mobile computer science education access, teaching critical skills for success in a tech-driven world. Tech for Kids is a computer science education program, utilizing Code.org and other top-rated open-source curriculum, STEM coding toys and new, unique resources. We have incorporated an ergonomics module, Technically Cool Computing (pshfes.org), with the outcome of optimal learning, long-term health and safety. We provide a bridge to the real-life application through interactive, project-based classes. Classes are customizable and designed for in-person or remote learning. In 2017, the App Association reported that the USA will have 1 million open computing jobs by 2024 and there are estimated to be fewer than 400,000 people who will graduate with the right skills to fill them. Workers in high-tech industries and computer science occupations earn a substantial wage premium of between 17 and 27 percent relative to workers in other fields. Employment growth in the tech sector has consistently been robust, outpacing job gains across all occupations. Many schools do not yet teach computer science; unquestionably leaving three-quarters of American students ill-equipped to enter the modern workforce. NFC's Tech for Kids program engages youth, from kindergarten to grade five, to achieve success in today's technology-driven world. We change the lives of foster and low-income children by providing a uniquely compelling form of fun and interactive early-stage computer science education. We improve tech-ed access and education for students from all backgrounds with a focus on those who have traditionally been under-privileged. It’s essential and critical that we empower youth, giving skills and a competitive edge to succeed. Our Tech for Kids program prepares children for a future by providing early-stage tech education. Low-income youth struggle and are underemployed because of limited resources to assist them. NFC, through its Tech for Kids program, seamlessly fills an identified gap, providing a spring-board for low-income children to become competitive with equal advantage. NFC fills a gap where children are not being engaged and educated adequately. We believe that every child has the potential to change the world and help them get started. As stated by Marian Wright Edelman, an American activist for children's rights, the question is not whether we can afford to invest in a child; it is whether we can afford not to.
