Our Mission

The NourishED Research Foundation, Inc. (NRFi) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 99-2669462) that uses research to change the conversation around eating disorders and their social justice roots. We believe knowledge is nourishing and we prioritize research activities, findings, tools and skills (including research literacy) in each arm of our organization, leveraging research findings to empower breakthroughs in eating disorder awareness, understanding, prevention, treatment access, and clinical and lived experiences. We do this through a four-armed approach that aims to fill in gaps recognized in clinical research care in each of teh following areas and ways: (1) We provide free/low-cost virtually-accessible whole health resources for folks with low access ("entrusting your health into your hands"). (2) We provide clinical resources and trainings for providers that improve detection, screeining, diagnosis, treatment planning, stigma and other systemic barriers to care. (3) We use inclusive research to provide a more complete understanding of eating disorder pathology and treatment needs (including the 85-95% of folks who go undiagnosed, untreated, and historically are excluded from research samples). (4) We use social media campaigns and education outreach initiatives to change the environments eating disorders occur in. In sum, we use research to nourish knowledge and empower hope - for eating disorders, for everyone. We hope you'll join us! https://nourishedrfi.org

Who We Are

The NourishED Research Foundation (NRFi) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that uses research to change the conversation around eating disorders. NourishED was founded in 2024 after recognizing a deficiency and need in federal funding allocated to binge eating disorder research while also recognizing the ways that deficiency results in significant barriers to care. Thus, NourishED aims to improve key gaps in eating disorder clinical research and care, focussing on four targeted areas: (1) indivdiuals who experience eating disorders; (2) providers who might help support them; (3) research that informs our understanding of eating disorders; and (4) environments eating disorders occur in. See our mission statement above for a brief description of our strategic activites in each of these areas. Overall, we believe knowledge is nourishing and we prioritize research activities, findings, tools and skills (including research literacy) in each arm of our organization, leveraging research findings to empower breakthroughs in eating disorder awareness, understanding, prevention, treatment access, and clinical and lived experiences, advocating for health self-efficacy and enabling indvidiuals to hold their own health and wellness in the care of their own hands. Join us! https://nourishedrfi.org To impact meaningful change in lived experiences, NourishED prioritizes inclusive research on eating disorder interventions that are: (1) free or low-cost; (2) accessible (virtual or community-based); (3) socio-culturally sensitive, inclusive, and responsive to the unique experiences of indivdiuals with binge-type eating disorders and their complex sequela of adversity and health disparity(see Bray et al., 2021, 2022(a,b), 2023, 2024, 2025a,b,c).
