Our Mission
The Heart of Ida supports Long Beach seniors in need with programs and services that sustain independence and connection within their community.
Who We Are
A committed community activist, Ida Alice Reich dedicated her life to supporting those in need, including providing companionship to seniors in nursing homes with her granddaughters, Dina and Keri, in tow. In 2008, the sisters founded The Heart of Ida, Long Beach’s only 501 (c)(3) dedicated exclusively to serving low-income seniors, in Ida’s honor. For more than 15 years, The Heart of Ida has continued Ida’s tradition of serving, supporting, and caring for our city’s most vulnerable population. By partnering with local government, like-minded community organizations, and volunteers, The Heart of Ida has expanded Ida’s vision and reach to serve thousands of senior participants every year. Our programs support a wide range of needs and are funded 100% by individual donations and grants.
Our Vision
The Heart of Ida envisions a community where every senior has the support they need to live independently and thrive, including feeling heard, appreciated, connected, cared for, and safe.
