ICNC advocates for the interest of business on Chicago’s Nearwest Side. ICNC strengthens both start-up & emerging companies by providing business development assistance as well as information and links to public and private resources and services. ICNC, an employer-driven organization, develops programs and services in response to the needs of the companies it represents. In addition to the $2.5 million a year in revenue from its incubator (operated by ICNC and its 501 (c)(3) affiliate, the Kinzie Industrial Development Corp or KIDC), ICNC receives over $700,000 a year in funding from government and foundation grants – positioning it to offer extensive no-cost services to local companies and tenants. Today, ICNC is comprised of over 400 member companies and represents the Nearwest side’s rapidly growing business community, comprised of over 2,000 small businesses. INTENTIONAL LIVING. Living an intentional and creative life of love and nonviolence towards humanity, animals, and the Planet. 4. FOOD. Do not follow the crowd. Eat vegetarian, vegan, or plant-based eating. 5. ECOLOGY/ NATURE. Take bold actions towards the end of violence to all animals of factory farming and factory agriculture. 6. COMPANION ANIMALS. Go to the end. Jump and create wings on the way down. Upset the norm to end the violence and euthanizations of shelter animals. 7. BE A LEADER. Do not be a follower. You’ve been given a mile. Don’t take only an inch. At AHIMSA we believe there are two ways each of us must choose to view today's humanity. Hopeful or Fearful. We see Hopeful. ALTAPASS SUPPORT INC
In 1995 Katherine Trubey purchased 280 acres of unrestricted land straddling the Blue Ridge Parkway to preserve its historic beauty and prevent development that would destroy the views from the Parkway. Though the land was bought as a preservation project, the new owners recognized that they had much more than Blue Ridge Parkway views and heritage apples to preserve. "Kit" Trubey, together with Bill and Judy Carson, began a journey: to preserve the unique history and culture of Altapass, and to use The Orchard at Altapass location to showcase it. In 2002 the natural and historical preservation projects associated with The Orchard, McKinney Gap, and Altapass were placed under the umbrella of the nonprofit Altapass Foundation, Inc. Then in 2004, the orchard and the general store were incorporated as a supporting nonprofit organization. Together, the Altapass Foundation, Inc. and Altapass Support, Inc. promote and support the many special projects of the Orchard. These projects attract an increasing number of visitors to the area each year and bring together locals, tourists, and vacation property owners. The mission of the Altapass Foundation, Inc. is to preserve the history, heritage and culture of the Blue Ridge Mountains; protect the underlying orchard land with its apples, wetlands, butterflies, and other natural features; and educate the public about the Appalachian experience. We depend on contributions from Altapass Foundation members and donors to continue the many programs and projects aimed at preserving the land, the history, and the culture of Altapass.
