There have been many positive developments in recent years related to the health and well-being of children and youth around the world. For example, according to UNICEF, the number of out-of-school children globally has declined by almost 40% since 2000, thanks in part to government efforts to improve access to education. In addition, many countries have made progress in reducing child mortality rates, with the number of deaths among children under five declining by almost 60% since 1990. There has also been increasing recognition of the importance of protecting children from violence, abuse, and exploitation, with many countries adopting laws and policies to prevent these harms. While there is still much work to be done to ensure that all children have access to the resources and support they need to thrive, these positive developments demonstrate the potential for continued progress in improving the lives of children and youth around the world.
