Learn About Child Marriage

Child marriage is a deeply concerning issue that can have significant negative consequences for the physical and mental health, education, and well-being of girls, but there have been many positive developments in recent years that offer hope for reducing child marriage rates worldwide. According to a report by UNICEF, the prevalence of child marriage has declined by 15% over the past decade, with progress made in many countries to implement policies and programs to prevent child marriage. Many countries have implemented effective policies and programs to prevent child marriage, such as strengthening laws and policies to protect girls' rights, promoting girls' education, and empowering communities to change harmful social norms. In addition, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of addressing the root causes of child marriage, such as poverty, gender inequality, and discrimination, and promoting positive gender norms and empowerment of girls and women. These positive trends have contributed to a decline in child marriage rates in many countries, with some studies reporting a reduction of up to 50% in rates of child marriage over the past few decades. These positive developments indicate that progress is being made in creating a safer and more supportive environment for girls, and that there is hope for a future where all girls are able to reach their full potential and make choices about their own lives.
